Chocolate and Pistachio French Toast with Warm Maple Syrup

Chocolate and Pistachio French Toast (0006-2) by Meeta K. Wolff

Long, lazy mornings is what we are enjoying at the moment. No hectic, no meetings, no stress to get anywhere and the feeling is good. Christmas weekend came and went and the tumultuous celebrations of the three days with gift wrapping, roast cooking and tree decorating lie behind us. We’re letting our souls dangle in the sheer luxury of time wasting and the opulence of big and extravagant breakfasts.

Christmas Puddings: Sticky Toffee Pudding and The Heston

Sticky Toffee Pudding (0019) by Meeta K. Wolff

Dessert first please! And the rest will fall into place. When planning my menus for dinners I am usually the type who starts with dessert. The sweeter side of life and the best first has been somewhat of a motto for me. It probably goes back to the days I was training in a pastry kitchen.

Christmas Cookies: Hazelnut Marzipan Macaroons, Jam Drops with Morello Cherry Preserve and German Sptizbuben

Christmas Cookies 2010 (0013) by Meeta K. Wolff

A cookie - and the world seems in perfect balance. Watch the tears of a young child dry up and a smile light up his face when he is offered a cookie. See the remorse disappear from an elderly persons eyes replaced by blithe, as they are presented a bag full of cookies. Feel your friends’ warm smile across borders and oceans as you imagine them opening the box filled with delicate cookies. Cookies and their healing powers - there is no exaggeration here.

Christmas Baking: Florentine Christmas Fruitcake

Florentine Christmas Cake (0024) by Meeta K. Wolff

As early as August is when the stores and supermarkets here begin stocking up on Christmas-ware and food treats. It’s crazy in September as I see scary chocolate ghosts and pumpkins lined along the shelves with smiling Santas and cute snowmen. I often wonder if people really indulge in Christstollen, lebkuchen and co. when the heat is on in the sweltering months.

Lavender Macarons with Ruby Red Grapefruit Prosecco Curd

Lavender Grapefruit Proseco Curd (0006) by Meeta K. Wolff

Hello December!

You’ve arrived with a storm, taking us all in your wintery grasp and covering us in a deep fluffy white blanket. Each year you force yourself earlier upon us. Arriving like a silent ghost, you bring a shuddery chill throughout the region. The bare snow-topped trees sparkle as if lined with diamonds and morning rays of sunlight dance through the mist of a bleak and gray sky.
