H2Ope For Haiti

One of the things I love about being part of this food blogging community is the fact that the readiness to help. We’re not all about food, recipes, Farmer’s Markets and fancy food pictures – no it goes deeper than that.

When the horrifying earthquake shook Haiti earlier this years bloggers got together and helped right across the web. Twitter, Facebook, blogs - every outlet was used and we all did what we could to raise money.

A few days ago Jeanne told us about a first-hand account of a qualified Boeing 747 pilot who had flown a relief flight to Haiti after the earthquake. Instead of sitting idly Jeanne began organizing H2Ope for Haiti.

H2Ope for Haiti is an online raffle organized together with BloggerAid - Changing the Face of Famine (BA-CFF) to raise funds for Concern Worldwide's relief effort in Haiti.  Concern Worldwide was selected because of its long track record and quick response after the quake to provide clean drinking water and water purification tablets.  This non-governmental international humanitarian organisation founded in 1968 works around the world to reduce suffering and work towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world's poorest countries.  Concern International has been working in Haiti since 1994 and had over 100 staff members on the ground when the earthquake struck.  Despite losing several team members in the tragedy, they have been quick to act with distribution of supplies.

Concern Worldwide estimates that its initial response to the emergency will last at least six months.  The money raised by this raffle will be paid directly into Concern Worldwide's account by Justgiving and will be used exclusively for the Haiti relief effort.

Please take a moment and do take a look at all the wonderful prizes being donated by generous bloggers from around the world.Meeta-H2Ope-For-Haiti-Collage

As part of this auction I will be donating the vibrant cookbook Ottolenghi: The Cookbook. If you have not heard about it you're missing out on incredible delectable recipes from salads, roast vegetables dishes to mouthwatering meat and fish recipes and brilliant breads, pastries and desserts. This is a must have in your kitchens. To give you a taste of what to expect, try the roasted aubergine with saffron yogurt.  But there's more: I am throwing in two colorful (or black and white) prints of your choice from my photo collection. Make your way to my Flickr portfolio or browse though my blog, What's For Lunch, Honey? and select any two photos you are attracted to. The prints will be approx. 20 cm x 30 cm, printed on high quality photo paper and unmatted. Have fun browsing. The prize code for this package is: HFH18 and I will be glad to ship it worldwide.

How does the online raffle work?
Unless stated otherwise, all prizes are available for worldwide shipping and tickets cost £6.50 each that's roughly $10.00 USD. Once you have chosen the prize(s) you wish to buy tickets for, take a note of their unique prize codes and click through to the Justgiving donations page where you will find complete instructions on how to buy your tickets and specify your chosen prizes.
Please read and follow the instructions carefully!
The raffle will run from Sunday, February 21 through until midnight on Sunday, 28 February. If you have yet to give to those who so desperately need our help in Haiti, then we urge you to participate in the H2Ope for Haiti fundraiser!
