One never knows how the dynamics and mechanics of a group will function. It’s an intricate matter bringing 12 people together, each from different parts of the world, with different personalities, characters and desires. The drive has to flow in positive directions and the synergy between the group must be cohesive and interactive. It is one of the things that keeps us, as instructors of the Plate to Page workshop, always on our toes.
Plate to Page Somerset: The Best of Britain
Does it ever become a routine when one does something often enough?
In some cases it might, yes, becoming a chore, perhaps. There are some things, however that no matter how often you repeat them, they still preserve the initial charm of the first time. And From Plate to Page certainly falls in the latter category.
From Plate to Page Snapshots
I’m coming down after a fantastic time in the UK. The third edition of From Plate to Page Somerset happened and blew by so fast I still need time to gather my thoughts and go through the images I took over the weekend. Over on Twitter and Facebook we were fairly active sharing a lot of the weekend. I loved being able to capture the weekend in snapshots via Instagram and thought you might enjoy a snapshot trip with me too. Once I have sorted through my thoughts and photos I will share a more detailed report with proper images. In the meantime here is what I got up to with my gorgeous partners, Ilva, Jeanne, and Jamie.
From Plate to Page: Under the Tuscan Sun
Getting a group of people under one roof for an entire weekend can be a tricky, if not an intricate matter. The dynamics need to be just right; the energy has to flow in all the positive directions and the synergy between the group must be cohesive and interactive. It’s difficult to get all the processes right in one group, usually a good amount of work is involved beforehand to bind each individual into forming a harmonious group.

“You really came all the way from New York for Plate to Page?”
With a look of inconceivable marvel on his face, my husband asked this question on the last evening of what became known as the WORKshop: where the work was put back into workshop!
We met in Weimar

We’ll always have Weimar. It was surreal and I am still collecting and ordering my thoughts for the weekend gone. Plate to Page came and with a click of the camera button and a stroke of a pen it disappeared. The four of us - Ilva, Jeanne, Jamie and I, had had this vision for a long time and after almost a year in planning, organizing, fretting and frustrations, I think it would be safe to say the first Plate to Page Workshop in Weimar was an amazing event.

Treats come in many shapes, forms and sizes. For her a treat could be the finest leather high heeled shoes, in red; all eyes are on her as she sways down the street. For him, his treat is a brand new part to the sleek Porsche 550 Spyder; he puts the pieces together like a jigsaw puzzle with his own hands. For the writer probably a simple stack of paper: his writer’s block subsides as he begins to fill the blank pages with new ideas.
Treats: we all need and depend on them.
From Plate to Page: A Hands-on Food Photography and Writing Workshop
I’m really excited to share something that’s been in the making behind the scenes for several months now. Today I finally get to share it with you all.
May I introduce From Plate to Page: a unique workshop dedicated to food photography and writing. But it goes far beyond that, because we believe we’ve put together a concept that’s unlike anything offered here in Europe.
The idea: an exclusive group of just 10 participants keen on taking their writing and photography to the next level, be it for their blogs or for professional work.
We have tailored a meticulous 2.5 day programme filled with intensive writing and photography assignments and hands-on activities to realize your goals and visions. With four very competent instructors, each in her own field, we want to cater to each individual participant with many one-on-one discussions throughout the weekend.
We’ve even chosen a charming and secluded retreat right here in the quaint country-side of Weimar, Germany to make sure we are not distracted and are able to let our creativity flow.
What I am loving about this form of workshop is that we’ll be working together as a tight and close group and we are making sure to keep the number of participants to a maximum count of 10. After the feedback we were able to gather from other conferences we have spoken at in the past, we are pretty sure this is what many of you are looking for.
It’s been something that each of my lovely collaborators and I have envisioned to do for a long time. I hold a deep respect and incredible affection for each one of these ladies I will be working with on this project. We have so many great and fun ideas and look forward to realizing them.
Come and have a look at what we have planned for you at the Plate to Page Programme. Read a little about Plate to Page and our concept behind it. See where we’ll be spending the weekend in the lovely country house in Weimar. Finally if you like what you are reading and think this is exactly what you have been looking for – well what you waiting for – Register Now! Registrations will be taken on a first-come-first-serve basis and once we have reached the maximum of 10 participants registrations will be closed.
We’d love your feedback so please let us know what you think: contact us!
