Allow me to introduce ...

Meeta K. Wolff_Ko-4197

... myself!

Welcome to my official about page for What's For Lunch, Honey?.I launched this blog in 2006, and it transformed into a vital platform connecting me with like-minded bloggers. At that time, food blogging was still a niche endeavour. Through this blog, I discovered the art of photography and styling, becoming a self-taught photographer. Over the past two decades, my blog has been instrumental in shaping my journey as a food photographer and stylist. I am passionate about capturing visual narratives and creating vibrant, uplifting imagery that showcases the beauty and emotional bonds of real food. When I'm not behind the lens, I’m on an adventure, discovering my next favorite dish or fulfill my wanderlust. "What's for lunch, Honey?" was a powerful catalyst that shaped my journey as a teacher and mentor. Over the past 18 years, I've had the privilege of organizing bespoke workshops and retreats around the globe, while also offering comprehensive individual online courses.

Who am I?

Meeta - a name given with love by my dad! I was born during a beautiful summer day in 1972 in Bombay, India, practically delivered in a hotel that became the backdrop of my father’s life and career, infusing me with the essence of hospitality. This vibrant hotel lifestyle opened doors to the world, allowing me to immerse myself in diverse cultures, learn various languages, and embark on countless adventures.

Following my father's footsteps, I pursued Hotel Management with a focus on Marketing and Guest Relations, and trained in one of the world’s finest luxury hotels in Doha, Qatar. It was there that my love for food blossomed, igniting a spark that continues to fuel my journey.

Now settled in Germany with my wonderful husband Thomas and Soeren, my delightful son of 5 6 7 11 16 23! years, I have charted a course away from hotels. My career led me through advertising, architecture, design, and software firms, a journey that unfolded in unexpected yet enriching ways.

Family_Kyoto_Tea Ceremony_2025

Residing in Weimar, I finally feel grounded, having discovered a true home. Yet, the wanderlust within me still whispers, urging me to explore where life may lead next.

My love for photography has always been present, but it blossomed through my blog, unveiling the captivating realm of Foodography. This transformative experience has allowed me to capture moments that tell stories, inviting others to feel the vibrancy of each scene and savor the essence of the experience. I invite you to join me on this journey and see if I am succeeding!

What's with the Food Blog?

LRM_EXPORT_23578435111976_20190613_230938237

Arriving in Germany, I found myself yearning for the tastes of home—the earthy warmth of Indian curries, the vibrant mosaic of Arabic spreads. Each dish was more than mere sustenance; it was a vessel of memory, a thread connecting me to my heritage. This longing ignited a passion within me, transforming simple nostalgia into a profound journey of culinary exploration.

Delving into food history became my obsession. With each recipe recreated from my grandmother’s notes, my mother’s whispered instructions, and the treasured wisdom of countless “aunties,” I wasn’t just cooking. I was preserving stories. I began to play with ingredients, layering flavors until each bite tingled with discovery. I wanted to share not just recipes, but that moment of delight when taste transcends the ordinary.

What began as a private digital kitchen, a quiet space where family could gather virtually, soon grew into something more. Encouraged by those closest to me, I opened the doors to the world. What’s For Lunch, Honey? was born.

Today, this humble blog cradles over 800 recipes. It is a tapestry of tradition, experimentation, and invention. From cherished classics to bold new creations, each dish carries a piece of my journey. Over two decades, this space has blossomed beyond anything I once imagined. Every award, every mention, every photograph published, and every word written has been a quiet triumph. It is a testament to how passion, when shared, can find its place in the world.

In February 2009 Times Online UK selected What's For Lunch, Honey? as one of the World's Top 50 Best Food Blogs.

Yup - you bet I feel good about that one!

What's with the name?

Ko-3988

The name has a simple, spontaneous story behind it. I created the blog in just a few minutes, almost without thinking. At the time, I had something baking in the oven, and as my two boys wandered into the kitchen asking, “What’s for lunch?” it clicked. That simple question felt perfect. It was honest, everyday, and full of warmth. Right then, I knew it would be the name.

My first post now seems wonderfully naive. But like being thrown into deep water, I learned to swim quickly, and on my own. Back then, I had no idea so many food blogs existed across the globe. Discovering this world was like uncovering a hidden community. It has since given me so much: friendship, support, motivation, and genuine joy. For that, I am deeply and continually thankful.

What’s For Lunch, Honey? has become far more than a place to share thoughts, experiments, or musings. It has grown into a creative platform where I’ve developed my true passion: food photography and styling. My favorite days are spent in the kitchen, tinkering with a recipe I’ve been dreaming up. Then I carefully plan a photoshoot to capture the dish in just the right light.

Through this space, I strive to share that passion and preserve these moments. I do this for myself to look back on, and for anyone who visits. And in the process, I’m still learning something new almost every day. I hope I never stop.

Quality Seal

Saffron Pear Bundt Cake-by Meeta K Wolff-0022

Naturally, the heart of this blog is food. For me, the journey to good food begins by knowing exactly where it comes from. The quality of my ingredients matters deeply. Most of the fresh produce, dairy, meat, and other fresh products I use are organic or fair trade. This commitment is part of a larger philosophy: to be mindful of the environment I live in today and the one I will leave for my child.

Of course, sensibility is equally important. I believe in sourcing regional and seasonal products that honor both the earth and the budget. Cooking with ingredients that are thoughtfully chosen makes every moment in the kitchen more meaningful and worthwhile.

Several posts, regularly include a section about a specific product, which takes a closer look at the product from a health and nutrition point of view and gives helpful tips on selecting and storing. You will find many fresh products in my Ingredient and Food Know-Hows category.

Recipes

DXBWORKSHOP-2017-by Meeta K. Wolff-0066

Every recipe you find here is assembled with love, care, and deep passion. My sources are wonderfully varied: a clipping from a newspaper, a page in a magazine, a cookbook passed down, a whisper from my grandmother, a tip from a friend, or sparks of my own imagination. Inspiration comes from everywhere.

I never copy a recipe word for word. Most of the time, I adapt, adjust, and refine until it feels like my own. When I prepare a dish from a cookbook or an online source, I always credit the original, recommending the book or linking back with gratitude.

These recipes are posted with thought and time, and my tweaks often reflect our family's tastes. Still, if something in a recipe doesn't seem quite right to you, please let me know. I will gladly look into it and appreciate your note.

Posting & Commenting

Tutti Frutti Popsicles by Meeta Wolff-0116

Maintaining a blog is rewarding work, but it is not without effort. Each post follows a careful process, from photographing a dish (often after it has been safely tucked away from hungry family members) to writing and polishing the final words. By the time a post is ready—usually after a few focused hours—I feel a true sense of accomplishment.

Your comments are invaluable to me. They are my most meaningful feedback and help me understand what resonates with you. I read every single one, though I can't always reply individually. When possible, I respond to comments in thoughtful clusters, usually within a day or two of publishing.

I welcome respectful discussion and differing viewpoints, and I do not delete comments simply because I disagree. However, I do not tolerate personal attacks, insults, rudeness, or promotional content. Such comments will be removed.

Please stand behind your words by commenting with your name. Anonymous comments are not welcome here. This space is built on openness and respect, and I ask that you engage accordingly.

Thank you for being part of this community, for your thoughtful feedback, and for sharing in this journey with me.

Reviews & Advertising

I want to be fully transparent with you about the recommendations I share here. If I ever mention a product, ingredient, or cookbook, it is because I genuinely believe in it and have chosen to use it myself. Every recommendation comes from a place of honest experience, not from paid partnerships.

In the past, I accepted products and cookbooks for review from publishers. I remain an honest and straightforward person—my reviews will always reflect my genuine opinion, whether positive or otherwise.

You may have noticed that there are no longer any advertisements or affiliate links on this site. I have chosen to remove them all. I now cover all the costs of the blog myself to preserve its integrity and keep your experience focused entirely on the content.

My commitment is and always has been to share what I truly love, to inspire with authenticity, and to keep this space genuine. Thank you for being here.

  2. Nice to meet you, Meeta!!!!! It was so mysterious your face behind that camera!
Lovely, deep, warm and long post... with my english took me a while to finish reading it... but it's been so informative and direct. I've seen myself reflected in many of your thoughts concerning food and blogging, as I guess many of us, foodbloggers do.

I love your place and manners, so you will have me here reading and commenting, not as much as I would like to (time goes by too fast) but often!

Love and Health wishes from Spain!

I love your idea of putting a portion aside for later - especially now that it is so dark out so early and it is very difficult to get a reasonable picture no matter how many lights I put on! Your pictures and blog have been such an inspiration to me, with that little hint being just one of many, many things I've learned from you.

I am Nina. I just found your blog. Please let me know what is the easiest ay to transfer your American quantieties of food into European ones?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Thank you everyone once again for such lovely comments. I am getting a big head! If I ever feel down I know all I need to do is come here and read these comments.

Nina, check out my menu bar. YOu'll find the tab "Links", then scroll down to the section "Helpful Resources" Here you will find a link to "Convert Me". I use this all the time to convert my recipes. Hope that helps! However, on my blog you will find that the recipes are almost 90% in Metric (European) measurements and only a few in cups (American). So I am hoping you should not be finding it too difficult to make some of my dishes ;-).

  75. Quick question on the photo issue:

I'm unclear on the use of a photo (or portion of a photo) as a link back to its source (your site). It's a typical linking device among blogs, but I'm not sure how that fits into your photo policy. I linked to a post of yours using a tiny thumbnail-sized piece of a photo under the assumption that doing so would make it impossible for someone to steal your photo via my site. But it now occurs to me that that might actually run afoul of your photos policy, and I don't want to inadvertently violate your policy.

Can you clarify with regards to these kind of photo-based links?

    ReplyDelete
  76. nice of you all to drop by and leave me your feedback. it means a lot.

Colette, normally you just need to send me an email and ask my permission for the use of my photos. if it's for a non-profit purpose, blog etc. I normally have no objection if you provide a link to WFLH and credit the photo to me. I see you have done this so I am fine with you using my picture. Thanks for the mention!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Great and honest About page, congratulations.
When you talked about the stress of taking pictures right after the dish is ready, I thought "hei, this is me!" Taking picutures the day after is a good suggestion, I'll give it a try.

  80. Hi

I came across your site while googling images for figs - looking for some photographic inspiration for the ripe fruit waiting in my fridge.

Your blog is beautifully done, your writing superb, the images absolutely wonderful, and I couldn't browse by without leaving a note (probably YET another complimentary one!) to let you know how much I have enjoyed my visit.

I look forward to stopping by again.

    Regards

    Deirdre

  81. Andrea, Arlette, Deirdre - thank you so much for stopping by and I really appreciate your feedback and thoughts. Hope to see on around the blog more often and keep your thoughts coming. Hugs!

  82. A web search for flaky butter buns led me to your Nutella Rolls. I haven't even tasted them yet and I am hooked!

Love your blog and your talented eye for food photography. Your passion for taste and fine ingredients is wonderful.

I'll be back to read more....must go and bake hot cross buns now.

    Happy Easter!

  83. I think your blog and your photographs are amazing. I love the recipes, the way you write about how the dish came into being and the photograph. Being a mom to 2 little boys and a foodie, I am constantly thinking of new ideas and your blog is a great resource for me.

Photography is a passion of mine and I would love to know how you manage to take close up shots with the black background so perfect. I sometimes find it difficult to get the right black background and focus on what I want. May I ask what mm lens you use and if you use any particular prop?

Thanks and again, wonderful pictures and recipes!

  84. Hi Meeta!! I just found your blog because I moved to Germany for a couple of years to study and I came here with my new family: my boyfriend who is also studying and our baby, who is almost one year old :) I have not experience at all in the kitchen and now I want to learn to prepare new and delicious recipes and your blog seem to be excellent for that! Or maybe I'm too amateur?? Well, I just don't know if it will be possible for you like giving a list of the names of the ingredients in the German language, or if you know somewhere where I can find that information....Last week I prepared something and I needed cream, I though it was Schlagsahne but it wasn't...Well, that kind of things are my problems right now...learn how to cook and learn German vocabulary...Thanks for your help! You seem to be a really nice person!

  89. Thank you for such thorough instructions on making puff pastry and delicious recipes. I look forward to trying. I was surprised to find huge amounts of pre-made vol-au-vents for sale in grocery stores in Barcelona. I would love to try to make my own pastry though!

I posted your recipes on my post on large amounts of vol-au-vents for sale in the market.

It was nice reading your bio. I felt a connection for being born the same year :). I had started following you on Twitter when I firt joined it - now I don't remember if I discovered your website via Twitter or googling for some recipe, then started following you on Twitter! Another thing that drew me is that you live in Germany - I have learned German, but never been able to practice it. I used to travel around until I got married. Just wanted to leave a comment and say I really like your food blog and think your photo/foodography is awesome!

  107. I took an interesting little detour tonight after I had read your latest entry on your time with Jeanne. It has been fascinating getting to "know you" a bit more sweet Meeta. You are so precious and your blog is wonderful. I have lurked around it for years and only now and again commented. These days I read and run because time is so hectic but I hear you on the comment thing. It is the life blood of a blog and keeps the blogger coming back to blog some more wonderful stuff.
You have a very special talent and I for one appreciate it greatly. One day when I am big I would like to take photos like you :o) Hugs and much love xx

I came upon your blog through my sister's food blog - And your pictures of Dresden caught my eye. I too am from Bombay and my boyfriend is from Dresden! I love your food blog and think it's really cute. Also - I love your photographs! In fact, I was browsing for beautiful food photographs for a food montage I want to set up in my apartment and was wondering if it would be ok for me to use your excellent shot of bratwursts, beer and Dresden in the background?
Again - love your food blog. Check out mine sometime - it is about knitting! knotwithoutmypurls.blogspot.com
